Date: 14 September 2010
Location: Idalia, CO to Monument, KS
Chase Partners: Dann Cianca and Fred
Summary:
We headed out with an initial target near Wray, CO on a marginal day, but thought it was worth a shot. This would be the last chase for me this 2010 and I wanted to get out just one more time. After arriving in Wray, a storm blew up to our SW from a little wave that came out from the Rockies and started to initiate convection near Limon. As it made its way ENE it slowly evolved into a giant supercell that went severe warned near Joes, CO. We intercepted just west of Idalia, CO and stayed ahead of the storm until it reached Monument, KS later that night. During its life cycle it produced several brief tornadoes and had AMAZING structure. We are confident we saw at least 2 of the reported tornadoes, one of which is highlighted in one of the photos below. Here are a few shots I got along the way.
Taken near Idalia, CO as the storm just went SVR Warned.
Dann Cianca shooting video as we take in the scene before us.
