Date: 2 May, 2001

Location: Hoisington, KS (11 days after an F4)

Summary:

Departed Denver for a slight risk day near Pratt, KS.  Sat in Pratt, KS for a good portion of the day until it became obvious the CAP was too strong and had all but suppressed thunderstorm development.   After leaving Pratt to head back home I headed up HWY 281 and decided to see the damage that the F4 tornado that hit Hoisington KS on 21 Apr 2001 had brought.  This took some convincing for myself to do this.   I decide since I had never seen actual tornado damage in a town to see the other side of the beast that I have decided to pursue.   I had no idea what to expect.  I was completely shocked to see the damage I saw and it was VERY HUMBLING.  My sincerest apologies to the residents that had to endure this tragedy.

The 1st signs of damage as I entered the north end of town on 281

I was left speechless as I looked to my left

Solid F2 damage on the E side of the tornado's track

I will never forget the feelings I felt as I saw this gentleman standing in his driveway
