Location: Goodland, KS to Leoti, KS to Goodland, KS.
Chase Partner: Solo
Summary: Started at Goodland, KS when storms fired near Syracuse, KS. I headed south as the towers near Goodland were not doing much except withering away to nothing. I intercepted my first storm near Leoti and chased it East toward Amy, KS. It went outflow dominant and looked rather ratty. Another storm popped up west of Leoti, so I headed back west to Leoti to intercept. This storm looked fantastic! Classic structure! Ran into Dann Cianca and Scott Hamel. We all chased this storm north out of Leoti. It went TOR warned and was becoming more surface based. A well defined wall cloud emerged from the base of the storm and looked many times like it was going to produce a tornado, but never could get its act completely together. I chased this storm until it got away as my road network turned into a muddy mess. I ended up following the V2 "Scout" vehicle and a number of other V2 vehicles up County Road 160 west of Russell Springs. I then proceeded to head directly to Goodland and came in right behind a storm that was shooting lightning all over the sky and had produced a couple of tornadoes. When I got to it, it had a very nice wall cloud that was lightning illuminated as it was dark by now. I chased for about another hour as it was TOR warned the entire time, but if there was one, I never could pick it out of the lightning. I chased yet another TOR warned storm near Benkelman, NE, but it was getting away and I decided not to push it since it was near midnite. I finished my night in McCook, NE in preparation for the High Risk the next day.
Dann Cianca and Scott Hamel and can't remember your other
partners name (sorry man, I am sure Dann will correct me!) checking out
the storm structure East of Leoti.
Heading west toward Leoti, this storm is looking pretty text
book.
Just north of Leoti this wall cloud struggled during its
entire life cycle to get its act together. It just never really could get
the circulation to the ground.
Sun setting as I am heading up toward Goodland, KS to try and
intercept a TOR warned storm that produced a cone tornado north of town.
Such is life I missed that by 5 minutes.
