Location: Eastern CO near Akron.
Chase Partner: Alone
Summary: Left Denver on a spot chase around 1430 MDT and intercepted a storm that had formed near Prospect Valley that I could visually see from my house. I shot out Hwy 36 to Last Chance and then north on Hwy 71 to Woodrow. From then on it was good old CO county roads. About the only real highlight was intercepting a rattlesnake laying in the road that I felt compelled to back up to take some pictures of because the storm was looking pretty bleak. The storm never really could get its act together. It started to tighten up and develop a hook echo near Otis, but it was pretty short lived. I gave up the chase just shy of the Nebraska border. Meanwhile on the way home I watched the Aurora, NE tornado on a couple chasers web streams. Fun chase for a short time, but Aurora would have been a sweeter deal.
Heading up Hwy 71 near Woodrow, CO.
My first rattlesnake encounter while chasing. No
I didn't get out of my truck. And no I didn't back up and run it
over after I took its picture! I tried to get it to rattle, but no
dice.......which made me think what if I encountered it in the brush?
