Date: 7 June 2009

Location: Arapahoe County, CO near Deer Trail.

Chase Partners: Tami Griffin, Joe Spencer, Eric Hurst

Summary:   Wasn't really planning on chasing today but when I got up in the morning and pondered over the outlooks I decided to head out with an original target near Stockton, KS.   While enroute Joe Spencer called me and said that the tornado risk for Eastern CO had increase to a small 5% circle from near I-70 north to the Nebraska state line.   After looking over some more data I decided to head to Last Chance and meet up with Joe and Eric.   While hanging in Last Chance 2 super cells popped up in the Denver Metro.   Joe and Eric arrived shortly after we did and we looked at our options and decided since there were tornados being reported to our west to head that way and see what we could see.   The storms were heading SE out of the metro and we headed toward Deer Trail for an intercept.   When we saw the tornado it must have been between 10-15 miles to our west.   The following pictures are what we captured.   It lasted for about 5 minutes or so after we first established visual with it.   Turned out to be a great back yard chase.   Tami and I headed toward Last Chance - Anton - Cope, CO down Highway 36 and were on 2 separate TOR warned storms, but everything around us was severely outflow dominant.   After reaching Cope, we opted out as the storms were really not doing anything more as far as organization and headed for home.

These were taken from about 1 mile north of Deer Trail.

Tornado just beginning to rope out.
