Date: 21 May 2006
Location: From Sterling, CO to Oberlin, KS to Brewster, KS
Chase Partner: Fred the F5
Summary: Left Denver and targeted NE Colorado. Was kind of a mediocre day for potential, but after sitting at home for 11 days I would chase just about anything. Seeing the chaser convergence at Sterling, I was glad that I wasn't the only one. A storm blew up (if you could call it that) west of Sterling and might have gotten some decent CG video out of it, other than that, it didn't have much going for it. More storms started to go up east near the NE/KS border, so I headed that way. Again nothing to exciting. I think it was more relaxing knowing that nothing really spectacular tornado wise was going to develop this day and I could just enjoy being out on the Plains and take it all in without having to constantly keep on top of what the weather was doing. Anyway, I ran into a pretty good storm near Trenton, NE. Stopped to try and video tape some CG and got a really great sunset. Another storm formed down the line and I headed south and made an intercept well after dark south of Oberlin, KS. This storm actually looked pretty good on the radar and the lightning was phenomenal. After that had passed I started back for Denver and ran into another line of storms that were south of I-70, but not really going anywhere in a hurry. I stopped and took some CG time exposures near Brewster, KS. Afterwards, called it a night and made tracks back to Denver.
