Date: 9 May 2006

Location: Texas Panhandle from Spearman to Shamrock

Chase Partner: Alone

Summary:    Left DDC around 1000 and headed to Guymon, OK.   Had great WiFi there and since I did have some doubt as to this day as well, I decided to hang there for a while to see what was happening.   There was a Northerly flow over the region for most of the day and some mild convection in NE New Mexico/SE Colorado and the OK Panhandle.    Dew Points were in the low to mid 50's for most of the day.   Then in the late afternoon the winds started to come around from the S and SSW.   I headed south out of Guymon to Spearman, TX and watched things there for a bit.   Really good storms began to fire down near Amarillo and Pampa as well.   The storm on the flank of the Spearman storm really started to show some signs of rotation, so I balked on heading down toward the Pampa and Amarillo storms.     I decided to head to Shamrock and intercept the two storms south of me, only they had started to head from the east to the southeast away from me.    I caught the Pampa storm at Shamrock, but only the back side.   It was dark and I wanted to get back to Denver to pick up Fred and do some more chasing.  Storms kept firing all night near Amarillo and south of Dumas.    Stopped to take lightning pictures in McLean and Jericho.
