Left Denver at 0715 MDT headed for near Altus, OK. Stopped in Amarillo at 1415 to download data. Decided to head to Claude, TX and wait. Tornado watch was issued at 1700 CDT. 1 Storm fired way south of me near Aspermont, TX. Storms began to fire in my direction at around 7pm. Observed one high based LP storm near Childress, TX. Followed it north east to near Altus, OK til dark set in. Storms were firing all over the place now. Tried filming some lightning E of Altus when a tornado warning was issued near Fredrick, OK at approx 2230 CDT. Packed up and headed south east to Frederick. While enroute I tuned into the local SkyWarn frequency and head of a report of a tornado on the ground 5 SW of Fredrick. Headed E on HWY 5 out of Frederick after I knew I was behind the area of rotation. There was not a whole lot of lightning with this storm from my vantage point. When lightning did strike you could see a very persistent wall cloud. Followed the storm to near Commanche, OK as it became a right mover. Ran into some nickle size hail just north of the Cookietown Airport. Got very few photos or video worth looking at again on this chase.
This is the first storm I chased. Location is just SW of
Childress, TX at sunset.
