Summary: I was basically bored this morning and there was a slight risk of severe storm development in Eastern CO, so I packed up and Departed Denver around 0900 and arrived in Brush, CO at 1045. The dry line was starting to fire up well to the west of my location, so I decided to wait it out for a while just south of Brush. There were some interesting turkey towers going up during the wait until storms started to organize. I ended up heading south on HWY 63 south of Akron to a developing storm to my SW. After intersecting Hwy 36, I stayed ahead of the storm and watched a large gust front develop with numerous gustnadoes. Some of them we so large and reached so high that they almost resembled landspouts, however there was no circulation in the clouds to justify this. And considering some of them formed less than a mile from my location, I had a pretty good view of what was going on above. The storm turned severe near Joes, CO at about 1550 and ran into some dime size hail and HP. I followed this storm to St. Francis, KS however it weakened a great deal near Idalia, CO. I then decided to call it a day and head back to Denver.
One of many gustnadoes that formed ahead of the storm.
One of the more organized gustnadoes tears off to the
Northeast.
